The Rudd Center for Learning
and Academic Growth

The idea of supporting boys and individual learning profiles was hatched by Josephine Bauman Rudd more than 75 years ago.  As faculty member, Mrs. Rudd initially sought to help boys with reading comprehension. Through her work, she became one of the true pioneers in the field of academic support.

The Rudd Center for Learning and Academic Growth is a well-established academic support program that has aided in the academic success of 索尔斯堡 School boys since the 1950s. Over the years, the program has grown to become one of the leading learning centers in New England.

Our Program and Mission

We guide our boys to become confident, independent learners, who achieve academic success at 索尔斯堡 School and beyond.

To help 学生 develop strategies to become more independent learners and reach a greater level of academic success. We offer support for a wide range of academic challenges including those related to:

  • Executive function skills
  •  Language-based skills (reading, writing, verbal expression)
  • 计算障碍

  • 难语症
  • 处理速度
  • 工作记忆


Students receive prescriptive one-on-one instruction from a professionally trained learning specialist. Sessions are scheduled during the academic day and tailored to meet each individual student’s learning needs. Support plans are designed to maximize student performance and help each student reach their true academic potential.


20 trained learning specialists and tutors offer direct instruction tailored to meet each student’s individual needs. The staff includes reading specialists trained in the Wilson Reading and Orton-Gillingham methods of instruction, 数学专家, and experts in executive function skills support. 

Instructors are required to pursue advanced study each summer to acquire the most current techniques and keep up with industry standards.

Students are enrolled in the Rudd Center based on:

  • Learning profile (including current psycho-educational or neuropsychological evaluations)
  • 学习成绩
  • Previous teacher recommendations

The director of the learning center, the admissions team, and the director of studies review student files to determine Rudd Center enrollment. 

平均, the Rudd Center services 30% of the student body at any given time over the course of the school year.
